Chairman's Letter Rush Emergency Department Dress Code

To:        Students, Residents, and Fellows
             Department of Emergency Medicine
From:        Dr. Rumoro
Subject:    Department of Emergency Department Dress Code

Visiting Students / Residents / Fellows:
The Department of Emergency Medicine has a strict dress code that must be followed.   For a full detailed review of what the dress code policy is, I refer you to Policy Number NSOP-ED-0026 of Policies and Procedures on the Rush Intranet Website.
Failure to follow this dress code will result in the following actions:
1) You may be pulled aside and asked to either change your current attire OR
2) You may be asked to leave your current shift and redo the shift when you are dressed appropriately for this department.
In general, for this department, the dress attire is as follows (not an all inclusive list):
  • No sandals, closed faced shoes only
  • No T-Shirts
  • No Hoodies
  • Only Rush approved scrubs
  • No Scrubs with names from other  hospitals
  • Green or blue scrubs that have no name on them
  • Only acceptable piercing that can be shown is ear piercing.
  • No nail extensions
  • No Jeans
This is a summary of the basic dress attire when working in this department.  This is not meant to be all inclusive.   In short, what we have created is a department that prides itself on the image it displays to its community and this image is one of professionalism in portraying a caring environment.
If you yourself find any of the permanent department staff not wearing proper dress attire, I strongly encourage you to bring that information to my attention and I will keep your name confidential if such a report were to occur.
