During your rotation in the Emergency Department at Rush you will work 10 eight hour shifts for every 2 week block in the department. You will request your schedule preference by submitting your top three block requests from the template attached below. Every attempt will be made to accommodate your top request however be aware you may not get your first or second choice depending on the timeliness or your reply and seniority of your fellow rotating residents. Also please be aware that although I can guarantee the days off in the block you are assigned will be unchanged your specific shift on a given day may be changed on the final schedule if there is a surplus of residents on a particular shift. If you need a specific day off and did not end up with the schedule of your choice it is your responsibility to contact other rotating residents to arrange for a switch in shifts. If you do switch shifts you will have to notify me of the switches so I can change the schedule available to Attendings. Also please note that need to have at least 10 hours off between shifts so you can not double back for shifts if you do make a switch.
How to create your schedule -
· Refer to the template below (note: there is an intern template, a senior template and a Cook County resident schedule as start on different days)
· Each letter (A-D for interns, W-Z for seniors) corresponds to a resident schedule
· Each day at the top of the schedule corresponds to the day of the rotation (i.e. - if your rotation starts on July 1st that is day 1 on the template)
· Submit your top three requests in order of priority to me at Paul_Casey@rush.edu within 48 hours (use the format at end of this post) and I will finalize the schedule and send it out as soon as possible. If your requests are not received on time you will be arbitrarily assigned to a block.
· If you are rotating for 4 weeks in the emergency department please submit your requests for the first two weeks and requests for the second two weeks of your rotation at the same time (note - be sure you do not schedule yourself for an overnight or swing shift on the last day of your first two weeks and an early shift on your first day of the second two weeks)
· Again I cannot accommodate specific requests for days off - it is your responsibility to contact other rotating residents to arrange for switches.
We look forward to working with you during your rotation in the emergency department!
Take Care,
